One day after my
diagnosis, my best friend M flies in from Ireland for a few days. I'm
in shock from the news, sleeping much of the day and utterly,
bone-achingly exhausted even when I'm awake. I feel a weird
combination of overwhelmed, numb and on autopilot, with moments of
disbelief and fear sometimes adding to the rather unpalatable
cocktail.
Given the desperate nature of the situation, I decide to dye my hair
dark purple. That'll obviously help.
At the very least, I
know I'm going to be losing the lot in a few months, so I may as well
find out what it looks like in my favourite colour. I like it, but
unfortunately it doesn't actually cure the cancer.
